1) Deflate the tube completely by pressing down on the tip in the inner part of the valve.
2) Firmly hold the tire with your left hand, and ease one lever under the wheel as shown below.
3)Push down lightly on the tire lever (taking great care not to puncture the inner tube) to pry the tire over the wheel rim. Leave the first tire lever in place by placing the hooked end around the nearest spoke.
4) Place the second tire lever immediately next to the first by repeating steps 2 & 3.
5) Slide the second lever around the wheel, pulling the lip over the rim as you go.
6) Expose the tube by lifting the side of the tire you just loosened with the tire levers.
7) Remove the tube through the peeled back side of the tire. If the tube is punctured, discard it or patch any holes.
8) Obtain a new, unpunctured tube. Using an air pump, put a very small amount of air into your tire tube to help hold its shape.
9) Begin placing the new tube into the tire by locating the tire valve and inserting it into the valve hole.
10) Carefully slide the partially inflated tube into the tire.
11) Double check to make sure ALL of the tube is inside the tire. Any pinched tubing may tear during the next step.
12) To place the tire back on the bike rim, use your thumbs to work the lip of the tire over the rim and into the tire well. Work your way around the rim until the tire is completely in the tire well.
Note: You may need to use the tire lever to do the very last bit and pop it back onto the wheel.
13) Inflate the tube slowly and carefully at first keeping your eye out for any unevenness in the tire which would suggest pinching of the tube.
14) Hop on your ride and turn some heads!!!
This was a lifesaver. I tried using butter knives from the dollar store (and failed miserably) but once I had the proper tools, I changed my first bike tube in under 5 minutes. Great instructions and visuals. I hope to see more tutorials in the future.
